The Family Story Behind West Family School
The West Family School story begins with a young man named Wyatt.
At three years old, Wyatt was diagnosed with a rare chromosomal anomaly and with autism at age five. He enrolled at the Atlanta Speech School and went from non-verbal to talking non-stop in only eighteen months.
Unfortunately, Wyatt eventually aged out of the program and was forced to find a new educational environment. Two years later, his parents were still struggling with the lack of therapeutic school options in Atlanta. Meanwhile, Wyatt’s progress had halted, and his self-confidence declined.
This experience helped Wyatt’s family understand the need for a better option. So they decided to create one for themselves and share it with other families in their situation. In 2017, they founded West Family School (originally called Cornerstone Preparatory School for Therapeutic Education).
Why West Family School is Different
Built-in Therapy
While searching for the right school, Wyatt’s family found that most schools do not incorporate therapy into a child’s education. Infusing occupational and speech therapy directly into the daily curriculum allows students to make progress across multiple disciplines every day and saves you from driving to separate therapy sessions.
Flexible Learning Environment
No two students are the same, especially when they’ve been diagnosed with an intellectual disability. That’s why our teachers think outside the box when approaching each child’s unique needs and preferences. West Family School takes a personalized approach to educating each child.
