What is a therapeutic education? Collapse

Therapeutic education pairs traditional instructional methods with therapeutic techniques to support students' unique learning and developmental goals. In addition to the therapeutic interventions integrated daily, students receive individualized speech and occupational therapy sessions to target their specific goals.

Key components of therapeutic education include:

  • A holistic philosophy
  • Tailored educational plans
  • Therapeutic techniques
  • A collaborative approach
  • A focus on functional life skills
What makes West Family School an outsourced micro homeschool? Expand

West Family School has a team of professionals who teach students in a homeschool capacity. We consider ourselves a micro-school because we cap our student-to-teacher ratio at 4:2 to give each child the individualized instruction they need.

Who does West Family School serve? Expand

West Family School serves students ages 12-16 who have been diagnosed with intellectual disabilities. These often result in noted delays in reading, writing, and math as well as mild or moderate speech delays. Students in our program may also exhibit difficulties with fine motor skills, visual-motor development, and sensory processing.

What are the school’s operating hours? Expand

Students arrive by 8:30 a.m. and end their day at 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Where are you located? Expand

West Family School is based in a private home designed and built around the school’s needs. The school has a separate entrance from the home and is equipped with its own kitchen, bathroom, and learning spaces as well as three acres to explore.

We are located in Milton, Ga., a northern suburb of Atlanta. We serve students from Milton and neighboring communities, including Alpharetta, Roswell, Woodstock, and John’s Creek.

What does tuition cover? Expand

Tuition covers the cost of instruction, including the necessary books and supplies and any field trips and homeschool group costs. Families are responsible for lunches, snacks, and any additional recreational activities. Tuition also covers functional and social outings and one-on-one speech and occupational therapy. View our admissions page to learn more about this.

When is your normal admissions window? Do you offer rolling admissions? Expand

Our typical admissions period is in the fall (November) or spring (February to March). This allows time for the application process, phone interview, school visit, shadow day, and further testing as needed. This process takes time and is something we don’t want to rush during the school year.

Rolling admissions is offered on a limited basis depending on availability and the student’s fit into our existing educational environment.

Do you accept GA special needs scholarship money (SB10 funding) or financial aid? Expand

West Family School operates as a homeschool and, therefore, does not provide financial assistance or SB10 funding.
